Drama, passion and romance is all here in a concert of spectacular and popular Russian music. This is the symphony orchestra at its most exciting. Beautiful princesses entrapped by evil sorcerers and their deliverance by handsome princes are the inspiration for the first and last pieces of thus concert. Swan Lake ends in tragedy wonderfully expressed by the grandeur and elegance of Tchaikovsky’s much loved Swan Lake suite. Stravinsky’s fantastically colourful music for the Firebird passes from enchantment to wild frenzy until peace is ultimately restored. Between these masterpieces of Russian ballet is the achingly beautiful 2nd Violin Concerto by Prokoviev, was performed by prizewinning violinist, Fenella Humphreys.
