Beethoven’s 9th Symphony needs no introduction and is the absolute pinnacle of the symphonic repertoire. A towering symphony with dramatic grandeur, immense vision and sublime majesty it is the crowning achievement of the greatest composer of them all. City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestras is delighted to be able to celebrate its 20th Anniversary by performing this outstanding symphony, joining with the massed choirs from the members of “Peterborough Music Making” and an outstanding internationally renown team of soloist conducted by the inspirational Russell Keable.
Coupled with the gritty fanfare “Arbos” by Arvo Pärt and the evocative serenity of Vaughan-William’s Tallis Fantasia for string orchestra in the inspiring surroundings of Peterborough Cathedral, this brings together more than 200 performers in what promises to be the biggest single classical music event of 2010. CPSO is proud to present this in conjunction with the prestigious Peterborough Festival programme.
